Cargo chips in collison between Ystad and Bornholm

Around 3:30 am on the morning av December 13 our Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre received an emergency called regarding two cargo ship that had collided with each other. One of the ship, an Danish flagged cargo ship, has capsized after the collision.

Two people från the Danish ship are missing. A rescue operation is under way including helicopter and ships.

The cause of the collision is not yet clear.

Update at 15:33
At 15:05, the rescue operation from the Swedish Maritime Administration ended. The continued work and responsibility is handed over to the Police and the Swedish Coastguard.

One of the missing crew members has been found on board the towed ship Karin Hoej. The other person is still missing. Questions about the crew are referred to the Police.

The Danish ship Karin Hoej has now been towed closer to land, she is now located just south of Sandhammaren, Kåseberg. The Swedish Coastguard and rescue service have started diving with several divers to search for the crew members.

At 10:30, the Swedish Maritime Administration ended its search operation out by the sea for the two missing people. The two people are still not found. Continued search effort will take place in the ship when it is closer to land. The Swedish Coastguard is currently towing the Danish ship together with the Swedish Sea Rescue Society. When this is done, divers from the Swedish Armed Forces and the Swedish Coastguard, among others, will search the ship.

The towing is in progress, but we have no idea when the work can be completed.

The Swedish Coastguard is currently towing the Danish ship together with the Swedish Sea Rescue Society. This has two purposes: To be able to search through the ship more easily near port, and to prevent the ship from sinking. This is a measure in the rescue operation to find out if any of the missing are on board or not. The ship will be taken towards Sandhammaren, near Kåseberga.
