Processing of personal data
The Swedish Maritime Administration is responsible for personal data relating to the website www.sjofartsverket.se. The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Swedish Personal Data Act (PDA) come into force as of 25 May 2018. The legislation governs all management of personal data relating to the operations of the Swedish Maritime Administration.
The purpose of GDPR and DPA is to protect people from having their personal integrity infringed when personal data is processed. This applies when, for example, the Swedish Maritime Administration photographs people in order to publish the photos on the website or in newsletters.
Personal data – what is it?
Personal data may be anything that identifies an individual directly or indirectly. Standard information that is classed as personal data includes personal identity number, name, postal address and e-mail addresses. Also photos, films and audio recordings may be classed as personal data.
How may the Swedish Maritime Administration use personal data?
Personal data shall be managed in a manner that does not infringe personal integrity. All management of personal data is to be based on some form of legal grounds, such as legislation, contracts or assignments commissioned by the Swedish Maritime Administration. In certain cases, one may also consent to permitting the Swedish Maritime Administration to manage one's personal data (such as the use of a photograph that features the individual).
What is a Data Protection Officer?
The Swedish Maritime Administration's Data Protection Officer (DPO) shall have an overview of how the Administration operates the management of personal data. The DPO is to be contacted if an individual feels that the Swedish Maritime Administration has processed his/her personal data in an erroneous/integrity-infringing manner or if one wishes to rectify personal data.
